Coppersmiths
One of the crafts that were known in Mahrousa Cairo and were identified through a document of the Ottoman era
The person in charge of this craft was Nour al-Din al-Nahhas. The craft was not limited to civilians only. Still, a group of soldiers from Awqaq Mustafsan and al-Sabaih worked in it, and their task was to manufacture copper tools commonly used in cafes, oil shops and homes in the neighbourhood.
These coppersmiths were working in places known as the “foundry.” The neighbourhood included one of these ingots, located in the Bab al-Bahr neighbourhood near the fish market inside the Bani al-Wafa Suwaiq. And that many establishments and trade stores depended on such tools in selling their goods or placing the goods sold inside them.
