Canopic jar of King Tutankhamun
One of the most remarkable masterpieces in the collection of King Tutankhamun.
Made of alabaster
The canopy box was inside the funeral compartment of the king. The box’s hollow was divided into four sections, each with an elegant cover carved in the form of the king’s head. The box contains four small symbolic coffins in the form of a mummy of gold, where the inner bowels were preserved and placed in the sections of the canopic box, covered with stoppers Beautiful in the image of the king’s head.
The lid was attached to the bowl with ropes tied around gold circles bearing the official royal necropolis ring, and inside it were preserved four models of pure gold coffins in the shape of the mummy to keep the stuffed king’s bowels.
At the four corners of the box, in a prominent sculpture of four statues of Isis, Nephthys, Neith and Secret, extending their arms to protect the box’s contents.
