Ancient Egyptian fiancé
It is a type of pottery. The ancient Egyptians used it to make jewellery, pots, flasks, dishes, vases, and small figurines very popular with the ancient Egyptians, as found, for example, in the tomb of Ga, and children’s toys were also made from them.
The main material used in Egyptian faience is 95% white sand (quartz sand), in addition to a little clay, mineral oxides and lime, and some alkali such as soda, silicates and calcium. Depending on the number of iron oxides added, yellow, orange, brown or bluish-green colours can be produced. If the raw grains were relatively large, the product was brittle, and to obtain a solid product, the raw materials had to be finely ground.
The ancient Egyptian used the faience mixture, a glass mixture of lead oxide or tin oxide; these materials are now used in Italy in a city famous for manufacturing ceramics called Faenza. After the name of that Italian city, archaeologists named the artefacts of the ancient Egyptians from that material as a fiancé.
