The Eye of Horus in the Temple of Dendera in Egypt…
The Eye of Horus (formerly Eye of the Moon or Eye of Ra) in ancient Egyptian Udjat is an ancient Egyptian symbol and emblem with amulet properties, used to protect against envy, evil spirits, harmful animals and disease. It is in a necklace that adorns a person and expresses Royal power derived from the gods Horus or Ra. It is a solar symbol, which embodies order, rigour, and idealism. This necklace was also placed on the chest of the mummy of Pharaoh to protect him in the tomb. The ancient Egyptian artist excelled in making it of gold and forming it so that it bears pictures of Horus and the god Ra, and the symbols of life (Ankh) and permanence (Jet), and protection (Sa). The octagons were a symbol to indicate global and international stability during the era of the pharaohs.
The Eye of Horus was first used as a magic spell when Horus hired it to restore this father’s life, Osiris. It was prevalent in ancient Egypt and was considered a talisman in the hands of the powerful because it strengthens eyesight, treats vision diseases, resists envy, and protects the dead. Like a talisman, it symbolizes health, prosperity, and the immortality of the body, as well as the ability to revive the dead, “resurrection”. Currently, it is still used as an amulet by people of various religions around the world.
