► Joining the Ra boat chapter ►
Greetings to you, the great God who is in his boat
Get me into the boat.
I came, and I followed in your footsteps (I walked your path).
Make me captain of your boat.
Make me one of your followers and your retinue.
Make me one of the stars that never stop moving
What you hate and what I hate is hunger.
What I hate is dirt.
I will not eat dirt.
I will eat the heavenly food (offerings),
And I will not be prevented from eating it, and I will not be deprived of it.
I will not go near the dirt, and my hands will not touch it.
And I will not step over it with a sandal.
My bread will be of white wheat,
And my jam will be from red barley.
These heavenly gifts have been blessed,
When the morning boat and the evening boat brought it to me
Behold, the bounties of the two lands have been placed for you,
On the table of offerings for the spirits of “Iono” (Ain Shams).
And invocations and glorifications were sung for the glory of your countenance,
And you are sailing in the sky.
I beseech you, O dweller of Abydos (from the titles of Osiris),
to give me (heavenly) food,
And to protect me from all harm if dogs gather around me.
I have come here (the other world).
I came and spit on the body.
I freed my forearms and feet (from the mummy’s coils).
I walked to my feet and got into the boat.
And here I am sailing with it, as the will of Ra required.
