The statue was carved in the form of a crouching lion with a human head, the king, where the lion embodies strength and toughness, and the person symbolizes wisdom. Wearing a mongoose headdress, a cobra snake adorns his forehead, wearing a false beard, part of it is in the British Museum, and the other part is in the Egyptian Museum.
As for breaking his nose, there is a misconception that Napoleon broke it, but according to Al-Maqrizi, he mentioned that there was a 14th-century Muslim man called the fasting person who broke his nose because he believed he was an idol.
In the era of the modern state, during the reign of King Amenhotep II, his son Thutmose IV visited the area of ​​the pyramids and the Sphinx. During the trip, Thutmose IV headed to the head of the Sphinx statue to get some rest. At that time, the head of the statue was the only visible part of it. Then, Thutmose IV announced that Abu Al-Hol came to him in a dream asking him to remove the sand from the rest of his body and promising him that he would become king of Egypt if this order were implemented.
And documenting his story, which archaeologists called “the dream story,” Thutmose IV wrote it down on a plaque that read, “I went out hunting in the pyramids plateau, and it was a very hot day, and I went to the Sphinx to take cover in its shade from the sun. This painting is called the “Dream Painting” and was found between the feet of the Sphinx in 1817 in poor condition due to erosion by rain in the area of ​​the pyramids.
