Tomb of Queen Mersankh III 4th Dynasty It is a large subterranean rock-cut tomb chapel divided into three sections. Mersankh III is the granddaughter of Khufu. This Queen was the daughter of Prince Kawab and Hetepheres II. Mersankh III was the wife of her half brother Khafre. Mersankh III had several sons and a daughter. Her tomb below her mother was divided into three main sections. Reliefs include agricultural scenes, funerary banquet, On a boat gathering lotus and catching birds. With her mother lotus rebirth, catching birds, order over chaos. . In this relief, the Queen is wearing an elegant close-fitting gown of fine linen. Her two young sons are also depicted. Above her image are her names and titles “Daughter of the King ” “Royal Wife of Khafre” In a niche behind her beside Mersankh III and her mother, Hetepheres, are female members of the family. The Queen was found in 1927 in a black granite sarcophagus, and her mummy taken to the Cairo Museum.
