Egypt Magic [1509]
Sheikh Al-Balad (Kaaber)
The statue of “Kaaber” is one of the most magnificent and valuable statues of the Old Kingdom. When the workers of “August Marit” discovered this statue, they found the great resemblance between it and the sheikh of their town, called Sheikh Al Balad.
Discovered in 1860 by August Mariet in Saqqara near Oser Kaf, which is of sycamore wood, sycamore wood is considered one of the most important carvable wood as it is one of the flexible wood and is easy to carve. And he showed his full features, showing him his prestige and majesty, as he used to be a “trans” high priest and a chanter who recited the prayers for the deceased in the temples. We find that he is short hair (an essential characteristic of the priest) and wears a kilt to the knees with a tie on the abdomen. We find that the arms are separated from The body and hold a modern wand, and also there is a complete restoration of the left arm, where there is too much moisture, which led to its infection with fungi.
The eyes are made of copper and opaque white quartz, and the Egyptian artist excelled in fitting the arms in a “lover and adored” * length of 112 cm.
