Cobra snake of King Senusert II
It is the golden uraeus, or royal cobra, of Senusret II, affixed to the front of the royal beret or crown of the king.
Made of gold and inlaid with semi-precious stones, in a fashion
The head is of lapis lazuli, and the eyes are of garnet.

This serpent, which represented the goddess of Lower Egypt, was the king’s protector and the kingship. Then it became a symbol decorating the royal headdress, called a nemes, as it was attached to the crowns of kings as a symbol of protection.
