Itinerary

Our Egyptologist will drive you in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to see “The Citadel of Saladin Al Ayouby,” one of Cairo’s most impressive buildings. As a defense against the Crusaders, it was constructed in the 12th century. The Citadel served as Egypt’s royal palace and administrative center for hundreds of years. The Citadel was the seat of power for numerous dynasties over Egypt, including the Ayyubids, the Mamluks, and even some Ottomans.

And above the highest point in the Citadel of Saladin’s courtyard rises the Great Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha. Due to its size, architectural beauty, and striking domes and minarets, it is one of Cairo’s most recognizable monuments.

Afterward, we’ll go see one of Cairo’s most impressive Coptic structures, the Monastery of St. Simon the Tanner, also known as “The Cave Church,” in the el Mokattam hills area, not far from the Zabbaleen slum, also known as “Garbage City,” Cairo’s largest informal garbage collectors settlement, where garbage recycling is central to the economy.

The largest monastery is St. Simon the Tanner, which boasts a 20,000-seat amphitheater. The Middle East’s largest church is located here. As the name suggests, it is named after the Coptic saint Simon the Tanner, who lived at the end of the 10th century and is said to have played a role in the mythical relocation of Mokattam Mountain. St. Bola’s Church, St. Mark’s Church, and the Hall of St. Simon the Tanner are all part of the St. Simon the Tanner Monastery.

Then we’ll explore The “Hanging Church,” built in honor of the Virgin Mary in the third century and located in Coptic Cairo, dates back to this time. Its name, “Hanging,” comes from its perch atop Babylon’s (an ancient Roman citadel) gatehouse. There are 110 holy icons, each showing a moment from religious life.

Then visiting “Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church,” which is said to have been built on the place where the holy family rested at the end of their journey into Egypt.

After that, We’ll go to the “Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra,” which became famous in the nineteenth century. A Geniza (Storeroom) was discovered there, containing a treasure trove of forgotten Hebrew secular and holy manuscripts.
Finally, we’ll visit Old Cairo’s Khan El Khalili Bazar, the country’s most renowned tourist destination. Discover the beauty of the old Arab town on a relaxing stroll.

Our representative will take you back to your hotel at the end of the tour.
