You start your day of sightseeing by visiting Egypt’s most recognizable landmark: the Pyramids. The Great Pyramid dates back 4,600 years and is the only remaining remnant of the ancient Wonders of the World. For over 4,600 years after it was constructed for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, this Pyramid stands as mankind’s highest achievement in building methods.

More than two million stone pieces, some as heavy as 90 tonnes, make up Khufu’s Pyramid, which rises 480 feet above the desert sands. Climb to the summit of the Giza plateau and take in the view of the three great pyramids: Cheops (Khufu), Chephren (Khafra), and Mykerinos (Menkaure). Looking up at its majesty, we can see why the Egyptians’ building techniques for this ancient architectural wonder are still hotly contested today.

The Sphinx, the mysterious protector of the Giza Plateau, offers us another puzzle for the ages. The first known example of monumental sculpture in ancient Egypt is a carving of a lion with raised paws and the royal head of a pharaoh, which dates back to around 2,500 B.C.
